Liquor Licensing Process Guide

The liquor licensing process can be a daunting and time consuming task that is a MUST for your business but not for your schedule.

If there is no opposition to the issue of a license for you and your premise, you can expect the process to take around 12 weeks from initial application to issue. This is a general guide but not guaranteed.

Below is a guide to some of the documents you need to obtain or create before applying for your liquor license.

ALPBC - Alcohol Licensing Planning and Building Certificate - this application must be lodged before the liquor license application. Only when these two certificates are sent to you, can you apply for a liquor licence.

New or renewal liquor license

  • Host responsibility policy
  • Alcohol management plan
  • Risk mitigation plan
  • Detailed business case (this covers you, your history with hospitality, your business and how according to the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, you meet the requirements of the act to hold a liquor license)
  • Authority to sell liquor provided from the owner of the premises

Temporary Authority

  • Sale and Purchase agreement for the business
  • General manager certificates and details
  • Authority to sell liquor provided from the owner of the premises

Special License

  • Authority to sell liquor provided from the owner of the premises
  • A site plan showing location of marquees, exits, bar area & more
  • In depth detailed report discussing the event
  • Host responsibility policy
  • Alcohol management plan
  • Risk mitigation plan including security details
